Abilities

  • Necrotic Aura: Prevents all healing.

Every 20 seconds Loatheb will cast Necrotic Aura on the raid, reducing all healing done by 100% for 17 seconds. This means you get 3 seconds to heal every 20 seconds.

  • Deathbloom: (Nature) DoT with a larger last tick.

Every 30 seconds Loatheb will cast this on the raid. Does 200 Nature damage a second for six seconds followed by a 'Bloom' of death for 1200 damage as a reverse Lifebloom. Undispellable.

  • Inevitable Doom: (Shadow) Causes damage after 10 seconds.

Loatheb begins to cast it after two minutes of combat. Inflicts 4000 Shadow damage after 10 sec. 100 yards, every 30 secs. 5 mins after engaging, this will be every 15 secs. This debuff can not be dispelled, cleansed, or decursed and the damage can not be resisted. Ice block, Cloak of shadows and divine shield will remove it.

Adds

  • Fungal Spores: Spawn every 30 seconds.

These are killed by the DPS to get a positive "debuff" called Fungal Growth. The debuff prevents you from getting threat, and increases your crit chance by 50%. Up to 5 people within 10 yards get the debuff.

Basic Strat

This fight requires one tank on Loatheb. When a spore spawns, DPS get within 10 yards and kill it for the Fungal Growth debuff. This debuff prevents you from accumulating threat so the tank can not get it. DPS can go all out with this debuff since they cannot pull aggro. This is a good time to use any abilities which multiply damage. After 5 minutes, Loatheb casts his AoE curse every 15 seconds. This means 2400 damage to the entire raid every cast. This serves as the soft enrage timer.

Healing on this fight is the tricky part. Necrotic Aura prevents healing for 17 seconds. This includes all passive heals, items, and HoT ticks. Even if you put a HoT up while Necrotic Aura is down, they will tick for 0 when it is back up. Note that Power Word: Shield is technically not a heal, so it will still prevent damage.

When Necrotic Aura fades, you have 3 seconds to heal. Healers should wind up their big heal so that it lands in this 3 second window, then cast a faster heal if there is time. For example, a priest with a 3-second Greater Heal will start casting when there is 2 seconds left on the debuff. Druids can stack 3 Lifeblooms so that it explodes during the healing window. Non-healers can help heal if able.

In a 10-man, it is possible to kill a spore near the healers to give them the debuff. If mana is good healers can also help DPS the boss.

Keys to the Fight

  1. Maximizing healing during the 3-second window.
  2. Fungal Growth up as much as possible on DPS.
