I managed to sneek my gnomish self into the mountains near Ironforge, and into the Dwarf airport you can see when you fly from Ironforge to Menithil Harbor. The airport area is pretty big, and at the far end of the area is a blocked tunnel that appears to lead towards Ironforge. At the other end is a Griffon Roost. There are NPC's and an Inn style building. The NPC's are all copy-n-paste ironforge guards and gnomes from the Salt Flats Racetrack. Nothing is functional at this point, but all signs point to someday this will be an area we can get to legitimately. I have a series of shots, includuing this map. I'll post 2 of the 20-odd. Anyone interested in seeing the rest can let me know. At this point I think that only gnomes can get up there, Qex and I both were doing it, and something about the size/shape of the dwarf model kept pushing him back down the mountain where I was able to sneek along. It is worthy to note that as I can in over the top of the towers, the roofs of these towers are NOT solid, and I did die getting in the first time.

I have tried several times to get there. It is great that you were able to do so. Kudo's to you Toot!
I've always had the wonder of what was there. The the first time I needed to take my daughters character to Southshore, the Griffon flew over that and I asked Arowyn, where the heck that was. Ever since, my little dwarven self has taken a few detours to try and get there. Almost made it once, but like you said, I guess it take s a gnome to get some places that a dwarf can't...lol

Hey Tootsa - I snuck in there too - quite by accident. I was trying to find the remains of a body somewhere in the hills, and soon I was dashing along the border between Dun Morogh and Westfall. It was really cool inside - you could see into the buildings, but whenever I tried to enter them a wall appeared and I couldn't go through the doorway. There was a griffon master, but she had no exclamation point. It was funny to ask the guard standing next to her where the nearest griffon master was - the guard told Poggle that she had to go to Ironforge. I tried telling him that there was a griffon master *right next to him* but he wouldn't listen.
Also - there was some cool NPC battling going on - a bunch of battles were raging on the lake - characters were just skittering around everywhere, but I couldn't find another real player in sight. It was a little nerve-wracking, because I wasn't sure what was going on. But it was fun.
Also, I totally died on my way back out. Fell down a cliff 80,000 times my height and died of a heart attack on the way down. |
